I have been playing drums for over 20 years and absolutely love playing and teaching the instrument.

I have been giving private lessons for the last ten years to students of all ages (ranging from 5 to 72), both in and out of schools, and have had the pleasure of taking several students from complete beginner level all the way to Grade 8 and beyond. I teach both the Trinity Rock & Pop and Rockschool syllabuses (Grades 1-8) but am also very happy to work with students who just want to improve their general musicianship.

Since graduating from the University of York with a First Class Honours Degree in 2011, I have had a variety of experiences as a professional performer including: playing in rock/ pop bands in O2 Academies around the UK, leading a professional 30 piece samba band and playing drum set in the prestigious National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

My approach to teaching is friendly and encouraging, and I try to get students playing to music/ backing tracks as early on as possible, believing that this is one of the best and most enjoyable ways in which you can learn.

Testimonials and References

“Chris has been tutoring my 9 year old son for under a year now and has moved him from grade 1 to now grade 3. He also did a great job adapting the lessons virtually, in fact all of grade 2 was done this way. He is a wonderful teacher who is kind, patient and extremely encouraging. He sets the pace at the right level for your child. I highly recommend Chris.” (Sanita Hoch, mother of Harri, London)

“Chris is a fantastic teacher. My son has never learned drums before but after just 3 lessons he is sounding great and really enjoying it. Chris is friendly and punctual and a pleasure to deal with. He has even set up video lessons whilst we are unable to leave home. I highly recommend him and so does my son!” (Louise Scott, mother of Bill, London)

“Our son Leo has been playing drums for 6 years. Due to our family's frequent moves, we had to change teachers a few times as we moved to a new city. Chris has been Leo's drum teacher since we moved to London over a year ago, and is his favorite. Chris is very patient and supportive. He takes time to explain things calmly and always brings a positive, warm, friendly vibe to the class. He has identified Leo's weaknesses and helped him make great progress and stay motivated. As the country switched to national lockdown in March, we immediately switched to Zoom in a very efficient way. In short, we highly recommend Chris to students of all levels.” (Olivier de Gaudemar, father of Leo, London)

“Chris has been an instrumental tutor at Deansbrook Junior School since January 2018. He is a reliable, conscientious teacher, who is always punctual, courteous and nothing is too much trouble for him” (Alison Sandimas, head of music at Deansbrook School, London)

“Chris is able to tailor sessions to the needs of the individual student making lessons accessible, relevant, informative and exciting!” (Chris Mullington, father of Alex, London)

“Chris has been teaching Ruhan the drums for 8 years and has had an amazing impact. He started with Ruhan when he was a total beginner and Ruhan is now about to sit his Grade 8. As well as being patient and inspiring, Chris has instilled a love of music and performing in front of school and public audiences. Ruhan looks forward to his weekly lessons with Chris and in his words “Chris is the best teacher”. On top of this, Chris has guided Ruhan to getting two music scholarships, enabling Ruhan to go to his first choice secondary school. Ruhan has also been accepted onto the Royal College of Music’s prestigious weekend music programme as a result of Chris’s tutoring. We can’t thank him enough.” (Veena Verma, mother of Ruhan, London)

“I was recommended to Chris by my friend whose son is having lessons and in a short time is up to grade 7. I have always wanted to play the drums and as a senior I want to learn for fun. I have found Chris’s lessons very imaginative, inspiring and great fun so if you want to play the drums whatever your age Chris is your man. He is a great teacher.” (Adele Maxwell-Miles, London)

“Chris is an inspiring teacher who makes lessons fun but provides plenty of challenge. He’s got our son practicing regularly and with determination to improve!” (Gerry Davies, mother of John Davies, London)

"Great teacher, great drummer, great guy!" (Dan Johnson, London)

“I took up drumming during a midlife crisis. I feel in love with it and tried to play as much as I could. I then hit some technical problems and found Chris a few years ago. What an amazing find. He is dedicated and committed to improving his students’ playing. His lessons are packed with fun drills, playback, playing pieces and solos as well as helping me on any topic or questions I have. He gives the world of encouragement if he notices improvements and advancements. He is a very likeable young chap, who is also a rock star in the making. I thoroughly enjoy our lessons and I have improved significantly under Chris. Lessons will be very enjoyed.” (Yasser Hussein, London)

"Chris has a real gift in working out the individual needs of pupils. His enthusiasm for music and his patience are instantly recognisable. Watching him teach makes me want to learn as well as my children!"
(Martin Mulligan, father of Tommy and Michael, London)

"Chris is an excellent session drummer. Incredibly talented, reliable and a fantastic work ethic." (Rob Brinkman, London)

“I was immediately drawn to Chris’s brilliant teaching style – patient, creative and methodical. He continually finds ways to motivate me and push me towards being the best drummer I can be.” (Mignon Marks, London)

"I find Chris to be an excellent teacher with a natural affinity for children. He goes at the pace of the student and makes all lessons interesting. Our son looks forward to his lessons."
(Cory English, father of Sammy, London)
